The focus of Wiki Wednesday is to get people involved in maintaining and updating the Bitcoin Wiki, as well as building a very modest wiki page for this subreddit which covers the basics for all of our newcomers. The latter has proven challenging so far.
I’ve been extended the privilege to add approved editors to bitcoin.it. What this means is that the 1000 bit anti-spam ‘fee’ can be bypassed if you you haven’t already set up a wiki account. Simply PM BashCo your wiki handle or post it in the comments below, and I or someone else will add you. Once added, you will be able to edit most wiki pages.
Here’s a link to last week’s Wiki Wednesday.
A very quick list of current topics that could use some TLC. Please suggest other topics too. Sidechains, maybe?
There’s also /r/BitcoinWiki, which can be used to carry on the discussion, as well as to expand this subreddit’s wiki. This one is pretty ambitious and potentially redundant. The intention here is not to replace bitcoin.it (that’s just not possible even if we wanted to), but we really should have a basic ‘Quick Start’ guide that covers all the most important points from a noob perspective. I’ve broken the wiki into 3 main topics so far. Quick Start, FAQ, and Security. There’s also a /r/Bitcoin Sticky Revision Proposal that could use a few more eyes to make sure it’s concise, informative and welcoming.
Currently, anyone can edit the /r/BitcoinWiki/wiki, so don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, or at least offer suggestions for people who are willing to contribute, but aren’t sure where to start.
